What actually makes a shower accessible

Accessibility in a shower is mostly about reach, grip and temperature, and only a little about the head itself. A user sitting on a shower chair needs the hand shower to come down to them, which is a hose length and a holder height question. A user with reduced hand strength needs something wide enough to hold without pinching, which is a handle shape question. A user or a carer who needs to pause the water needs a control within arm's reach, which is a stop button or a valve position question.

None of that requires a special product family. It requires the ordinary parts to be chosen deliberately: a longer hose, a second holder low on the wall or a slide bar, a wider handle, a stop button, and a valve that will not deliver scalding water if a tap elsewhere in the building is opened. That is why an accessible programme is usually assembled from an existing range rather than developed from scratch.

The set, part by part

The list below is the usual specification for a care home, a hospital ward, an assisted living scheme or an accessible hotel room. Every item is supplied by ZHONGHE, and most of them exist in the published catalog of 96 model codes.

Two of them are worth extra attention. Hose length is the item buyers most often get wrong, because a 1.5 m hose that is fine standing up is short for a seated user; measure from the wall outlet to the seat before choosing. Holder height is the second, because a single holder at standing height forces a carer to hold the shower for the whole wash.

Standards, and what a factory can and cannot say about them

Accessible bathroom design is governed by national and regional frameworks. In the United States, specifiers work from ADA guidance on reach ranges, controls and hand shower hose length. In Germany and much of central Europe, DIN 18040 covers barrier-free building. Care providers often add their own scalding policy on top, and a hospital estates team will usually have a written water temperature limit for patient areas.

A shower factory can build to a written specification and can supply the dimensions, the hose lengths and the valve behaviour a specifier needs to check compliance. It cannot certify that an installed bathroom complies, because compliance depends on the room, the installation heights and the building services, none of which the factory controls. Buying an accessible programme

State the setting, the number of bathrooms, the layout, the seat height, the wall outlet position, the supply pressure, the finish and the packaging. Contract supply is usually polybagged for site installation rather than boxed for retail, which lowers the cost per unit and cuts the waste an installer has to remove. Ask for a small pilot quantity to be installed and reviewed with the care staff before the full order, because the people who use the shower every day find the problems a drawing does not show.

A replacement plan matters as much as the first order. Care settings are cleaned hard and used constantly, so agree from the start which parts will be reordered: hoses, holders, seals and cartridges. MOQ ranges from 500 to 2,000 units depending on the model, finish and packaging; custom packaging from about 2,000 units, mixed cartons are planned per order, and no health, medical or therapeutic claim is made for any ZHONGHE product.
