Aromatherapy shower heads are a development route at ZHONGHE, built on the same transparent-handle cartridge architecture the factory already uses across its filter shower models. Fragrance media sits in the cartridge chamber instead of, or alongside, filtration media, so the tooling, sealing, and testing groundwork is largely proven. This page explains what can be developed as a variant on existing molds, what needs a new design, and how media selection, compliance, and packaging are handled.

How the Cartridge Chamber Carries Fragrance

A filter hand shower is, structurally, a handle with a sealed chamber sitting in the water path. Water enters at the hose connection, passes through whatever media the chamber holds, and continues to the spray face. ZHONGHE's 28 filter shower models already work this way, with mineral beads, PP cotton, and activated carbon in replaceable cartridges behind a transparent PC handle.

An aromatherapy shower head changes the contents of that chamber, not the principle. Fragrance media, commonly a scented gel cartridge such as the vitamin-C gel format widely used in the category, or coated scent beads, releases aroma into the water stream as it passes. The transparent handle that lets shoppers see filter media does the same job for a scented cartridge: the colored medium is visible on the shelf, and visibly depleted media prompts a refill purchase at home.

Commercially, that shared architecture means the expensive part of the platform already exists. Chamber geometry, cartridge interface, O-ring layout, assembly sequence, and the water-test process are proven in filter production, so aromatherapy development concentrates on media selection, sealing behavior with a new medium, and retail presentation. • Cartridge chamber: the sealed housing in the water path that holds filter or fragrance media.
  • Transparent PC handle: shows the medium at retail and tells the end user when it is spent.
  • Replaceable cartridge interface: fixes the refill format, so every head sold defines a future refill SKU.
  • Fragrance media: scented gel cartridges or coated scent beads, selected with qualified material suppliers.
  • Positioning: fragrance is an experiential feature that adds scent to the shower, with no cosmetic or medical claims.

Two Development Routes: Variant or New Design

Most aromatherapy projects arrive as one of two briefs. The first is a fast market test: take a model that already has a cartridge chamber, put fragrance media in it, and change the artwork. The second is an own-brand product with its own silhouette, which means a new mold and the full development schedule.

The table below sets out both, with a middle route for the common case where the chamber itself needs adjusting. Timing figures are ZHONGHE's usual working guides rather than guarantees; sample rounds, media confirmation, and functional complexity move them in both directions.

RouteWhat it involvesTiming guideBest when
Media variant on an existing moldExisting model and existing chamber; new fragrance cartridge, artwork, and packagingNo mold work; sampling and confirmation time onlyTesting the category quickly on a proven, already-tooled product
Structure adjustmentChamber size, seal layout, or cartridge interface reworked on existing toolingAbout 15 days for internal structure design as a guide, plus tool modification timeThe chosen cartridge format does not fit the current chamber
New design and new moldNew appearance and new internal structure, 3D-printed sample, mold making, pilot approvalAbout 15 days appearance, about 15 days structure, about 60 days mold, about 30 days productionA differentiated own-brand product that has to look unlike catalog models

Fragrance Media Sourcing and Market Compliance

ZHONGHE integrates fragrance media; it does not formulate fragrance. Media is bought from qualified material suppliers, in the same way ACF, calcium sulfite, and mineral bead blends are sourced for the filter range, and the factory's job is to select a suitable medium, prove it works inside the chamber, and keep the documentation trail attached to the product.

Compliance is handled as a process, not as a badge. Requirements are confirmed for each target market together with the media supplier, for example by working with IFRA-conformant fragrance materials and requesting the supplier's material documentation for the destination country. ZHONGHE holds no fragrance certification of its own, and buyers should plan for their own market registration or listing checks where these apply. [确认: which fragrance media suppliers can provide destination-market documentation]

  1. Define the scent direction, the media format (gel cartridge or beads), and the price band the product has to hit.
  2. Shortlist qualified media suppliers and request their material documentation for your destination market, including IFRA conformity where it applies.
  3. Sample the medium inside the actual chamber: scent behavior in warm running water is different from a bench smell test.
  4. Confirm material compatibility between the medium, the PC handle, and the seals, since some fragrance carriers interact with plastics and elastomers.
  5. Agree claim language before artwork is drawn: experiential wording only, with no health, cosmetic, or fixed-duration promises.

Quality Control for Scented Cartridge Models

The production checks that apply to a scented model are the ones already running on the filter line. Every finished unit passes a water test of roughly 10 to 15 seconds before packing, leakage checks at 0.5MPa are applied in selected processes with the spray face held vertical, and O-rings arrive 100% inspected by AI camera at the supplier. Units are drained, air-blown, and dried before packaging.

What changes is the medium in the chamber, and two questions follow from that. First, whether the medium behaves in the water path without settling or restricting flow, which is checked on samples with the cartridge format that will actually ship. Second, how the fragrance cartridge is handled during testing, since a scented medium is normally kept sealed until the end user opens it. [确认: whether the 100% water test runs with a blank or filter cartridge on scented models, with the fragrance cartridge packed separately]

  • 100% water test of finished units, roughly 10-15 seconds each, before packing.
  • Leakage checks at 0.5MPa in selected processes, spray face held vertical to expose selector seepage.
  • O-rings 100% inspected by AI camera at the supplier, then checked again at chamber assembly.
  • Chamber sealing verified with the cartridge format that will ship, not with a stand-in part.
  • Drain, air-blow, and dry before packaging so no residual water reaches the retail pack.

Packaging, Refills, and Private Label

Fragrance is a packaging-led category. The scent name, the cartridge color, and the pack format carry most of the shelf message, which is why artwork and refill structure deserve attention from the first sample round rather than the week before shipment. Custom packaging is discussable from the same 2,000-unit level as many product projects.

The refill is the real business. A replaceable cartridge turns a one-time purchase into a repeat one, and the transparent handle is the reminder that triggers it. Lock the cartridge interface before tooling is committed, so that every head sold stays compatible with the refills you will still be selling two years later.

  1. Color-code cartridges by scent so shoppers can reorder the right refill without reading the fine print.
  2. List refills as a standing SKU from launch day, separate from the head, so replacement revenue is trackable.
  3. Pack cartridges sealed, in foil or blister, so scent is retained until first use.
  4. Keep replacement guidance usage-based: cartridge life depends on water temperature, flow, and how often the shower runs.
  5. Offer a starter bundle of head plus two or three cartridges for retail and e-commerce listings.
  6. Send a photo of any reference product to [email protected]; it is checked against existing tooling before a new mold is proposed.
