The warranty question, answered honestly

Buyers ask for a warranty period and expect a number. The honest answer is that the period belongs in your order documents, because it has to line up with what you promise your own customers, with the channel you sell through and with the product itself. A retail programme in a market where the chain gives two years cannot be supported by a shorter factory term, and a contract order for a gym is a different conversation again. The period for your programme is agreed and written down before production.

What can be said in general is what a warranty is for. It covers defects in manufacture and material: a leak from a moulding fault, a plating failure that is not caused by cleaning chemicals, a mode selector that fails in normal use. It does not cover limescale, damage from harsh cleaners or steel wool, installation damage, or the normal wearing out of seals and filter media, which are consumables. Writing that distinction into the manual saves a great deal of argument later.

What the factory does so a claim never happens

Nearly every after-sales case in this product category is a leak, a blocked nozzle field, a finish complaint or a packing error, and the plant is set up against all four. Every finished unit is water tested for about 10 to 15 seconds before it is packed, which catches leaks and blockages one unit at a time rather than by sampling. Selected processes add 0.5MPa leakage checks, flow is tested at 0.3MPa on selected specifications, and salt spray is run on selected finishes.

Two quieter checks matter more than their cost suggests. O-rings are 100 percent camera-inspected at the supplier before they reach the assembly line, because a missing or deformed O-ring is the classic cause of a leak that appears a month after installation. And cartons, labels, accessories and quantities are checked before sealing, which removes the single most common complaint of all: the right product with the wrong box, the wrong barcode or a missing washer.

How a claim is handled

Send evidence first. Photographs or a short video of the fault, the model code, the quantity affected, the shipment or production reference, and where in the product the fault sits. If a batch is affected, a note of which cartons and which date codes narrows it quickly. A claim with evidence is investigated; a claim without it turns into an argument about whose fault it is.

The investigation then looks for a cause, because the cause decides the remedy. A moulding or assembly fault is the factory's. A specification that was approved and turned out to be wrong for the market is a joint problem to fix in the next revision. Damage in transit is an insurance matter. Once the cause is agreed, the usual remedy is replacement parts or units consolidated into the next shipment, since air freighting low-value items often costs more than the goods. Spare parts keep a programme alive

The parts that fail are rarely the body. They are the O-ring, the washer, the filter cartridge, the hose and the mode cartridge, and all of them are supplied as spares and consumables. A buyer who stocks a small quantity of each can settle most end-user complaints by post instead of by replacement, which protects both margin and reviews. Filter programmes need a refill plan from day one, since a filter head without available cartridges becomes an ordinary head and a disappointed customer. Agree the cartridge reorder interval, the pack format and the availability window when the first order is placed, and add the spares to the same shipment rather than ordering them separately later.
