G1/2 vs NPT: Getting the Thread Right
Internationally, handheld shower hoses commonly use G1/2 threads - a parallel (straight) thread from the BSPP family. Because the thread is parallel, it does not seal on the threads themselves; sealing is done by a rubber washer compressed between the mating faces as the nut is tightened.
North American plumbing also uses NPT tapered threads, which seal by wedging the threads together, usually with sealant or tape. G1/2 and NPT are not interchangeable, and forcing one into the other damages the threads. Length, Finish, and Set Coordination
Hose length is a specification item, not an afterthought. State the nominal length and an acceptable tolerance in the RFQ: a hose serving a tall slide bar needs more reach than one serving a bathtub deck mount, and longer hoses change packed dimensions for carton and freight planning.
